Film Sheds Light on Nanjing Massacre, Sparks Global Dialogue

A new documentary film, Dead to Rights, is bringing one of World War II's most harrowing chapters to global audiences. Co-hosted by CGTN America in Los Angeles, the film's North American premiere united filmmakers, historians, and cultural advocates to spotlight the 1937 Nanjing Massacre and its enduring historical significance.

The release coincides with the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Through archival footage and survivor testimonies, the film aims to foster reflection on wartime atrocities while promoting cross-cultural understanding.

Following its August 7 debut in Australia and New Zealand, Dead to Rights will screen in over 250 U.S. theaters starting August 15, with 20,000 showings planned. Subsequent releases in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Russia, the Republic of Korea (South Korea), Malaysia, Singapore, and other countries and regions will broaden its international reach.

Historians at the Los Angeles event emphasized the film's role in preserving historical memory. 'Stories like these remind us why dialogue and education are vital to preventing future conflicts,' noted one attendee.
