Chengdu 2025 World Games to Showcase Innovative Sports Coverage

As the 2025 Chengdu World Games prepare to kick off this Thursday, host broadcaster CGTN Sports Scene is set to deliver groundbreaking coverage of the event. In an exclusive interview, International Sports Broadcasting (ISB) CEO Ursula Romero shared insights into the creative strategies planned to highlight both emerging and Olympic-bound sports.

Romero emphasized the unique opportunity lesser-known events like tug of war and life-saving offer for experimental broadcasting. "These sports let us break free from traditional formats," she told CGTN’s Mike Fox, noting the flexibility to innovate with camera angles and storytelling techniques.

While the World Games primarily features non-Olympic disciplines, several competitions—including baseball, squash, and flag football—will debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Romero stressed the challenge of balancing coverage: "We want to give newer Olympic sports due attention while ensuring all athletes feel equally celebrated."

Having visited Chengdu 10 times since 2023, Romero praised the city’s "world-class infrastructure" and "passionate sporting culture," expressing confidence in its ability to host future international events. Her remarks underscore Chengdu’s growing profile as a hub for global sports diplomacy.
