China, Croatia Strengthen Ties Amid Belt and Road Milestones

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman reaffirmed commitments to bilateral cooperation during high-level talks in Beijing on Monday. The meeting coincided with the 20th anniversary of China-Croatia comprehensive partnership and growing EU-China economic coordination.

Wang emphasized achievements in Belt and Road cooperation, particularly infrastructure connectivity projects linking the Chinese mainland with Central Europe. 'Our relationship demonstrates how countries of different sizes can achieve mutual prosperity through equal cooperation,' stated Wang, highlighting plans to align development strategies and expand collaboration in green energy and digital innovation.

The discussions occurred against the backdrop of two significant anniversaries: 50 years of EU-China diplomatic relations and three decades of Croatia-China ties. Both ministers stressed the importance of maintaining open communication channels between Beijing and Brussels, with Wang noting Croatia's 'constructive role in promoting practical EU-China dialogue.'

Radman reiterated Croatia's adherence to the one-China principle, recognizing Taiwan as an inseparable part of China's territory. The Croatian minister welcomed increased Chinese investment in Adriatic port infrastructure and proposed cultural exchange programs to boost tourism between the two nations.

Economic analysts highlight Croatia's strategic position as a gateway for Chinese goods entering EU markets, with bilateral trade growing 18% year-on-year since 2020. The talks concluded with agreements to enhance cooperation in agricultural technology and renewable energy sectors.
