China's State Council Information Office (SCIO) highlighted significant strides in high-quality commerce development during a press conference on Friday, offering insights into achievements under the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025). Commerce Minister Wang Wentao outlined progress in digital trade expansion, supply chain resilience, and cross-border economic cooperation during the Beijing briefing.
Digital Innovation Drives Growth
Minister Wang emphasized the role of e-commerce platforms in boosting domestic consumption, with online retail sales growing 11% annually since 2021. "Integration of smart logistics and blockchain technologies has positioned China as a global leader in digital trade infrastructure," he stated.
Green Commerce Initiatives Take Root
The ministry reported a 34% reduction in carbon emissions across major logistics hubs since 2021, aligning with sustainability targets. Over 5,000 enterprises have adopted green supply chain management systems under new regulatory guidelines.
Strengthening Regional Partnerships
Cross-border e-commerce pilot zones have expanded to 165 cities, facilitating $287 billion in international trade. Minister Wang noted increased collaboration with ASEAN members and Belt and Road partner countries, particularly in agricultural and renewable energy sectors.
Rural-Urban Economic Integration
A nationwide network of 12,000 rural commercial hubs has improved market access for 41 million farmers, contributing to a 19% rise in agricultural product sales since 2021. The ministry plans to deploy cold chain logistics systems to 80% of county-level regions by 2025.
