China’s July Weather Split: Torrential Rains and Record Heatwaves

As summer intensifies, China faces a dramatic weather divide – northern regions battle relentless downpours while southern cities endure unprecedented heat, revealing the complex interplay of monsoon patterns and climate dynamics.

Meteorologists report the rain belt expanding across northwest China, the North China Plain, and northeast regions this week. Guizhou Province has already suffered severe flooding since mid-June, with authorities warning of landslides and urban waterlogging in vulnerable areas. The China Meteorological Administration emphasizes that strengthened subtropical high-pressure systems are driving both phenomena simultaneously.

In contrast, the Yangtze River basin faces a different challenge. Shanghai, Nanjing, and Wuhan are experiencing 'sauna-like' conditions with nighttime temperatures barely dipping below 30°C. Hangzhou may break its earliest 40°C record this week, while Fuzhou and Nanchang prepare for seven consecutive days above 35°C.

"This weather polarization reflects changing atmospheric circulation patterns," a CMA spokesperson noted, urging residents in flood-prone areas to follow evacuation advisories and southern cities to implement heatstroke prevention measures.
