Macron Warns Iran’s NPT Exit Could Trigger Global Crisis

French President Emmanuel Macron has raised alarms over the potential consequences of Iran withdrawing from the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), calling it a "worst-case scenario" for global security. Speaking after an EU summit in Brussels, Macron acknowledged U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities as "genuinely effective" but emphasized the urgent need to prevent further escalation.

"The worst would be Iran's exit from the NPT, leading to a collective weakening of non-proliferation efforts," Macron told journalists. He revealed plans to engage with all five permanent UN Security Council members, including a recent discussion with U.S. President Donald Trump, to foster a "convergence of views" against renewed nuclear activity by Tehran.

Macron highlighted France's ongoing diplomatic outreach to Iran in recent days, underscoring the international community's priority to maintain the NPT framework. Analysts suggest Iran's potential withdrawal could destabilize regional security and complicate efforts to monitor nuclear development, with ripple effects across Asian energy markets and global geopolitics.
