Mainland Waives Travel Permit Fees for First-Time Taiwan Visitors

First-time travelers from the Taiwan region to the Chinese mainland will enjoy waived travel permit fees starting July 1, 2027, through December 31 of the same year, according to a new policy announced by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian revealed the measure during a press conference in Beijing, emphasizing its role in fostering cross-strait exchanges. The initiative, jointly approved by the Ministry of Finance, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Exit and Entry Administration, aims to simplify travel procedures and strengthen people-to-people connections.

"This policy reflects our commitment to enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait," Zhu stated, noting that the National Immigration Administration will oversee implementation. Analysts suggest the move could boost tourism and business engagement, particularly in sectors like technology and cultural exchange.

The waiver aligns with broader efforts to deepen economic integration, offering potential opportunities for investors eyeing cross-strait partnerships. Residents of Taiwan planning leisure travel may also benefit from reduced costs during the six-month window.
