AfDB Lauds Chinese-Built Infrastructure Projects in Tanzania

African Development Bank (AfDB) President Akinwumi Adesina has hailed two major Chinese-constructed infrastructure projects in Tanzania as "transformational developments" during a joint inspection tour with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan. The projects – Msalato International Airport and the Dodoma City Outer Ring Road – are poised to reshape regional connectivity and economic growth.

Airport to Boost Regional Integration

The $400 million Msalato International Airport, built by Chinese firms under Tanzanian authorities' supervision, spans 4,500 hectares and is projected to handle 1.5 million passengers annually. Transport Minister Makame Mbarawa noted it will become Tanzania's second-largest aviation hub, enhancing air links for trade and tourism across East Africa.

Ring Road to Accelerate Urban Growth

AVIC International and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation are constructing the 112.3-km Dodoma Outer Ring Road, a dual carriageway expected to reduce urban congestion. Adesina emphasized its role in creating "reliable infrastructure for domestic and international connectivity" during a public address in Nala.

President Hassan thanked the AfDB for financing these projects, stating they align with Tanzania's vision to become a regional logistics and trade center. The developments come as Chinese firms continue playing a pivotal role in Africa's infrastructure landscape, with over 200 major projects completed across the continent since 2020.
