Tata Group Offers $116K Compensation to Air India Crash Victims’ Families

Tata Group, owner of Air India, announced a compensation package of 10 million rupees (approximately $116,854) for each family affected by Thursday's fatal plane crash in Gujarat. The conglomerate also pledged to cover medical expenses for survivors and support reconstruction efforts at B J Medical College's hostel, which sustained severe damage during the incident.

N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, stated: "We are deeply anguished by this tragic event. Our thoughts are with the families, and we remain steadfast in supporting affected communities." Air India CEO Campbell Wilson expressed "deep sorrow" and confirmed relief flights for victims' families while investigations continue.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Initial reports indicate significant structural damage to the medical college campus, with images showing scattered utensils in hostel canteens where students were reportedly dining during the accident.

While official casualty figures remain undisclosed, India's foreign ministry confirmed multiple fatalities. Emergency responders continue search operations amid charred debris and damaged buildings at the crash site.
