China, Vietnam Strengthen Judicial Ties in High-Level Meeting

Senior Chinese and Vietnamese officials pledged to deepen judicial cooperation during a high-level meeting in Beijing on Friday, signaling renewed momentum for cross-border collaboration under their comprehensive strategic partnership.

Chen Wenqing, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with Le Minh Tri, Chief Justice of Vietnam's Supreme People's Court, to discuss implementing leadership consensus on legal coordination. Chen emphasized the need to 'improve communication mechanisms' and 'strengthen judicial assistance' while addressing transnational crime and cross-border disputes.

'Both sides should promote the efficient resolution of cross-border disputes through institutionalized cooperation,' Chen stated, highlighting practical measures to operationalize agreements between General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping and Vietnamese leaders.

Le Minh Tri affirmed Vietnam's commitment to expanding legal exchanges, noting the potential for shared approaches to modern judicial challenges. The dialogue comes as both countries work to implement their 2023 joint declaration on enhancing political trust and practical cooperation.

Analysts suggest the meeting reflects growing emphasis on legal diplomacy in Asia's bilateral relations, particularly in addressing complex issues like cybercrime and economic disputes under regional trade frameworks.
