Russia Launches Retaliatory Strikes in Ukraine: 6 Dead, 80 Injured

Russian forces unleashed a massive missile and drone assault across Ukraine early Friday, killing at least six people and injuring 80 others, according to Ukrainian officials. The strikes targeted Kyiv, Chernihiv, Lutsk, and other cities, marking one of the largest aerial attacks since the conflict began.

The bombardment followed warnings from Russian President Vladimir Putin, relayed through U.S. President Donald Trump, vowing retaliation after Ukrainian drones reportedly destroyed strategic bomber aircraft on Russian soil. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed three emergency responders died in Kyiv, with additional casualties in Chernihiv and Lutsk.

Russia's Defense Ministry described the operation as a response to Ukrainian "terrorist acts," claiming it struck military-linked infrastructure. Ukrainian Air Force data revealed the scale: 407 drones and 45 missiles deployed in a single wave, disrupting Kyiv's metro system and damaging rail networks.

The attack underscores escalating tensions as both sides intensify strikes on critical infrastructure. Analysts warn the conflict's ripple effects could impact global energy markets and regional stability in Eastern Europe.
